Three Ways To Overcome Disappointing Drone Data
In recent times, drones have become versatile tools for aerial mapping, creative videography, and 3D modeling. It’s no wonder that engineering firms, design departments, and survey companies are using them to collect critical data for their research projects.
However, conducting a safe aerial drone project is challenging due to its complexity, so a high level of proficiency is required. An experienced crew of two is typically needed to be at the site to take accurate measurements in real-time without hindering the project’s workflow.
At Excel Drone Services Inc., we understand the pain points associated with collecting drone data while attempting to stay within budget. Therefore, to help you get accurate data, we’ve listed three steps you can take. Read on to learn more.
1. Check the weather conditions in advance
Plan to collect your data when the sunlight and wind conditions are optimum for clear images. Lack of shadows on the ground and smooth flights yield clearer pictures and, as a direct result, more precise maps and 3D models.
2. Meticulously plan the schedule
Double-check your flight plan to give you an overview of the area to be mapped and ensure the flight path extends beyond the space to be mapped by at least one flight path spacing width.
Also, set the camera for the right light conditions and choose your frame rate and other parameters accordingly. Be sure to determine your minimum obstacle avoidance altitude and have your approvals for the flight on hand if in controlled airspace.
3. Review the final images
The third step is to review the images captured after the flight. Check for image clarity, and that enough pictures were taken BEFORE leaving the site.
On a final note, keep in mind that the surrounding areas such as provincial parks and airspace must be considered before the flight is taken and any cell towers and power lines that could cause loss of control of the drone.
